Garfield reboot to become a Following its record-breaking opening on Tuesday (July 3), it has been confirmed that 'The Amazing Spider-Man' will return twice more.

A post on the movie's official Facebook page today revealed that producers are planning to turn the Andrew Garfield-fronted reboot into a full trilogy.

"It's finally here! The Amazing Spider-Man is the first instalment in a movie trilogy that will explore how our fave hero's journey was shaped by the disappearance of his parents," said the update.

Though a sequel had already been green-lit, this is the first time that a third instalment had been spoken of - though it will hardly come as a surprise, seeing as similar movies such as 'X-Men', 'Batman Begins' and even the Sam Raimi 'Spiderman' films were made into three-parters.

Garfield has been quoted as saying that the second film has a May 2014 release date, but there is not yet a script.

'The Amazing Spider-Man' took $35 million in the US when it opened on Tuesday - the highest on record for a film opening on that particular weekday.
